General (our Curriculum / Outside Learning)
An inspiring Curriculum is essential for both children and teachers. Here at Moorside Infants we work from a topic based curriculum which provides the focus for our learning through which skills can be developed. Children are encouraged from Nursery throughout school to contribute to their learning and staff are skilled at enthusing and extending children’s learning.
We ensure that all statutory requirements of the National Curriculum are fulfilled and that we provide coverage of core skills, knowledge and understanding to inspire our children to become confident learners.
We follow the DfE Letters and Sounds to deliver our Phonics programme in FS and KS1. Our reading scheme is organised into book bands to include Oxford Reading Tree, Songbirds Phonics, Collins Big Cats Non-Fiction and poetry books to ensure a wide breath of reading experiences at the appropriate level.
We have recently developed outside learning environments for all our classes. We know that children learn best when they have the opportunities to discover, explore and investigate as well as focused input. We are fortunate enough to offer indoor and outdoor learning experiences throughout school and throughout the year.
Each class teacher prepares a topic web to show parents the areas of learning that are planned and how they can contribute. Please see the individual classes to find out what they have been learning.
