Governors are the largest group of Volunteers in the UK. The statutory core roles of the Governing Board are:
1. Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction
2. Holding the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils
3. Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.
The Governing Board consists of nine members:
- Executive Headteacher
- One Local Authority Governor
- Two Parent Governors
- Four Co-opted Governors
- One Staff Governor
Co-opted Governors are appointed by the Governing Board for their particular skill(s) and/or expertise.
The Governing Board may also appoint Associate Governors for a particular project or for their skill(s) and/or expertise. Newly appointed Governors will be an Associate Governor until they have participated in Governor training / education to enable them to understand the role and its remit. Associate Governors cannot vote.

This Governing Board does not have any committees: all Governors attend all meetings. In addition to the Chair, two Governors share the Vice Chair role: one is Vice Chair Resources and the other is Vice Chair School Development. These three roles then oversee / co-ordinate the work of the other Governors. Governors may work independently or serve on Panels. Governors then report on their work to the Governing Board. Governors have a strategic role and will monitor the work of the school and work with the Local Authority and other school improvement partners to ensure that the school improves in line with its Statement of Action.
Governors have specific roles / links to enable them to monitor the effectiveness of the School Improvement Plan on all the factors relevant to the School and the education provision for the children. The Members Profile and the Structure Chart will give you more information regarding the Governing Board members; their remit and how The Governing Board is organised.
